WATCHMEN review (sort of - no spoilers)

WATCHMEN By Alan Moore. Illustrated by Dave Gibbons. 416 pages. This is actually my first graphic novel - when we saw that the movie was coming out, my brother insisted that I read it beforehand so I'd have a clue as to what was going on. And I'm actually really glad I did. I got completely hooked on the story and read it in like 3 days. I really liked Rorshach, though he seems to be a black-and-white kind of guy - right is right, wrong is wrong, punishment for wrong is extreme. I like him though. I wasn't crazy about Nite Owl at first but I grew to like him more and more as the book went on. I don't really care at all for Doc Manhattan though - he may be the only one with powers but instead of using them he comes across as "poor pitiful me, my life has been wrecked" and looks down on those guys who don't have powers but are out there trying to make a difference and do the right thing anyway. I'm curious to see how they handle the story in the movie - I wonder if they'll change the ending. I'm not crazy about the ending at all, as far as the novel goes. We shall see in a couple of weeks. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this.

  1. I plan to try and read it before I go see the film too but there are a few holds on it at the library so we'll see.

  2. Hello. Thank you for following my blog. I'm curious how you felt about the movie, if you've seen it yet. I'll be going a second time tonight. They did make changes and I think they work.
